Lisbon’s hilly streets and charming trams make getting around an adventure, but taxis and tuk-tuks can quickly drain your budget. Here’s how to explore the city on an affordable way:
Use public transports instead of taxis
Get a Navegante card: A single ride on the metro costs €1.50, but a 24-hour unlimited pass for buses, trams and the metro is only €6.80.
Tram 28 for sightseeing: Instead of paying for an expensive tour, hop on the iconic Tram 28 (€3 per ride), which runs through some of Lisbon’s most stunning neighborhoods, including Alfama, Baixa and Graça.
Skip the tuk-tuks: They may be fun, but they’re overpriced. Walking is free and the best way to absorb Lisbon’s atmosphere!
Walk and use the free elevators: Lisbon is best explored on foot, but the hills can be exhausting. Fortunately, free elevators and funiculars help.
Skip the Santa Justa lift fee (€5.30): Instead, use the Carmo Monastery entrance for the same panoramic view – completely free.
Use the Lavra and Bica cable cars: These are included in the day pass, saving you extra euros.
Take the train for cheap day trips
– Sintra for €2.30: Avoid expensive tours and take the train from Rossio station for just €2.30 each way.
– Cascais for free: If you have a Navegante card, you can reach the beautiful beaches of Cascais at no extra cost.
