Lisbon is located along the river, which provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy scenic ferry rides. You can cross the river to visit picturesque spots such as Cacilhas, Trafaria, or Barreiro. Transtejo ferries offer a delightful and affordable means of navigating the picturesque Tejo River, connecting Lisbon to the charming southern bank.

  • Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas (10 minutes):
    • Ideal for those interested in visiting the iconic Christ the King statue.
    • Enjoy panoramic views of the 25 de Abril Bridge during the 10-minute journey.
    • Convenient access to buses taking you to the Cristo Rei monument or Costa da Caparica beaches.
  • Terreiro do Paço to Barreiro (30 minutes):
    • Experience a leisurely ride to the charming town of Barreiro.
    • An excellent choice for exploring the city’s southern suburbs.
  • Belém to Trafaria and Porto Brandão (20 minutes):
    • Scenic ferry ride with views of the 25 de Abril Bridge and Belém’s monuments.

  • Cais do Sodré to Seixal: For the Seixal waterfront and onward local connections.

For all five crossings, choose the exact route, direction and date in the official TTSL ferry timetables. Check service notices before setting off.

Experimental weekday ferry to Algés: TTSL also lists a Porto Brandão–Trafaria–Algés passenger service, with an average journey of about 22 minutes. This experimental route operates on weekdays. Check the official Algés timetable and service notices before travelling.

Lisbon Ferry Tickets and Prices

Ticketing: Purchase tickets at the ferry stations or use the Viva Viagem/Navegante reusable transport card for seamless travel.

Cost: Ticket prices vary by route. Current 2026 single-journey fares range from €1.50 to €3.25; check the official TTSL tariff before travelling, as fares may change.

  • Ticket Prices (Single Journey):
    • Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas: €2.00
    • Belém to Porto Brandão-Trafaria: €1.50
    • Terreiro do Paço to Barreiro: €2.95
    • Cais do Sodré to Montijo: €3.25
    • Cais do Sodré to Seixal: €2.85

Paying with Zapping: On the Cais do Sodré–Cacilhas ferry, a Zapping validation is €1.60 instead of the €2.00 single ticket. On the other four crossings listed above, the published Zapping and single-ticket prices currently match. A reusable VIVA Viagem card costs €0.50 where needed. The €10.35 Carris/Metro/TTSL 24-hour ticket includes the Cacilhas ferry only, not every river route. Always check the official TTSL fares before travelling.

Ferry Stations:

  • Cais do Sodré: Easily accessible from downtown (Baixa), also reachable by metro.
  • Belém: Located west of the city, providing a unique perspective of Lisbon. 


Timings:

  • Ferries run throughout the day, but schedules vary by route, direction, weekday and weekend. Check the latest TTSL timetable before travelling, particularly for early-morning or late-night journeys.
